I am making this post over two weeks from when the event took place. I have not been motivated to post much, but after planning, coordinating, & having the pleasure of leading this event with my partner as an AMC NH Chapter Volunteer leader; I thought i would make a quick post.
Over the last four years I have been posting social events via the AMC outdoors.org platform where like-minded outdoor oriented people can come to find group hikes, & social events. I prefer to post social events at AMC official locations as weekend stays (Example the AMC Highland Center near Bretton Woods NH). During these social events the format is “make your own adventure”. This makes the event much less painful in terms of planning & allows flexibility based on participant fitness & skill level. It also allows flexibility for unforseen weather.
The Highland Center is always a great venue for my social events right before thanksgiving as the crowds have gone home for the seaon, & it is the first exposure to winter hiking conditions which always seem to be something that requires a bit of breaking in to. Also it feels festive having a large group at group meals with the snow, cold, & lodge atmosphere.
A group of us hiked up to Mt Eisenhower directly from the center. This hike is a great re-intro to winter conditions as it is extremely gradual up to the base of the mountain. On clear days it offers great views. The best part is at the end you are right back to where you need to shower & get hot food.
If this sort of eevnt interests you & you live in New England, check out the outdoors.org adventures sub-page.
