Started from 19 mile brook at 0630 after sleeping in a car camping setup the night before at Barnes Field Campground (poorly). My partner & I were leading an AMC NH Chapter young member’s event there. The weather forecast for the weekend was unstable at best in terms of precipitation predicted for the area due to a September Nor’easter that was coming. The weekend ended up being excellent other than some brief showers Saturday night. It was more humid/warmer than i would have preferred for this time of year but that seems to be the trend the last few years unfortunately. It likely will not get better.
The hike was fast. Our moving pace was around 26min per mile. This is generally faster than i like to hike but i am able to maintain faster paces that i prefer. My body reminds me afterward with joint pain generally.
The hike itself was beautiful the views from mount Hight are some of the best in NH. We stopped at the hut for a quick lunch and took in some early foliage on the return.
