08-23-2026 Mount Morgan CA

I think we started this hike just before 6am. The drive was just under 40 minutes from Mammoth Lakes. We relocated to that area because it sits around 8000 feet (my garmin indicates where we are staying on the mountain is at 8227 feet). This would end up massively helping with the altitude sickness symptoms that we had been experiencing on the hikes done earlier during this adventure out west.
The start of this hike i felt like i was sleep walking. The night before i had woken up a few times feeling short of breathe slightly. The start of the hike was pretty uneventful, we started at rock creek lake and took a series of trails that lead us to tamarack lake. I force-drank 1.5l of water & refilled it at the lake. This whole trip the amount of water i have been able to drink has been less than ideal in full exposure.
After the lake it was pretty much get up on a ridge, then follow the ridge up a bowl up a series of false summits to the top of Mount Morgan. Sleeping at around 8K erased the pounding headaches we had experienced on other hikes in the sierras. Due to the sun and less water i felt less than great, but these are things i am familiar with. The views were excellent.
